Memorial Hermann Hospital

Overview

Memorial Hermann Hospital (MHH) is a 560 bed general hospital.  It is a certified Level I trauma center and is the main teaching hospital for UT Health Science Center at Houston.  Subspecialties of otorhinolaryngology within this rotation include head and neck surgery, facial plastic surgery, otology, pediatric Otorhinolaryngology, and general Otorhinolaryngology.

The teaching staff at Memorial Hermann consists of all full time faculty members and select volunteer faculty members.  Residents are encouraged to assist volunteer faculty at surgery whenever possible to enhance their surgical experience.

Each resident will be assigned to one or two full-time faculty members on each rotation.  The resident will be responsible for the attending physicians' inpatients, operative cases, outpatient clinics, and consults.  When time permits, a resident will be expected to help volunteer faculty with their operative cases or assist in consults.  The residents are expected to act as a team under the leadership of the chief residents, and share responsibility for all patients on the Otorhinolaryngology service at Hermann.  The chief resident at Memorial Hermann will be responsible for daily assignments.

Rotation at MD Anderson Cancer Center

The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center is one of the nation's leading cancer treatment centers. Each resident will spend up to four months each year at MD Anderson in a rotation designed to teach the principles and practices of head and neck oncology.

The resident(s) at MDA will be assigned to a team consisting of 2-4 staff, a head and neck fellow and occasionally another resident.  They will be responsible for assisting the attending's fellow in the care of inpatients, operative cases, and clinic.  The senior UT resident at MDA will make out each month's call schedule.
