Animal ResearchThe Center for Laboratory Animal Medicine and Care (CLAMC) at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston is responsible for the health and well being of laboratory animals used for the institution's biomedical research programs. CLAMC works in tandem with the institutional Animal Welfare Committee, and it meets all standards mandated by the Animal Welfare Act, Center for Disease Control, National Research Council Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care - International, and the Public Health Service Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.

CLAMC provides professional veterinary, surgical and animal care services, and its staff includes four veterinarians, seven veterinary technicians, and over thirty animal care and support personnel. CLAMC also provides training on the care and use of animals for UTHSC-H faculty, staff and trainees.

CLAMC facilities accommodate a variety of species and include a modern experimental surgery suite. Its 70,000 plus square feet of vivaria are geographically dispersed throughout the Texas Medical Center and a satellite facility in Huntsville.
