CPHS Guidelines for the Maximum Amount of Blood Obtained from Research Participants

In any 24-hour period, phlebotomy for research studies (all studies) in infants, children, and adults should not exceed 5% of the total blood volume and ideally should be less than 3% of the total blood volume.

In any one-month period, phlebotomy for research studies  in infants, children, and adults should not exceed 10% of the total blood volume. The investigator must justify to CPHS the blood volume being requested from research participants.

Please use the Pediatric Risk Assement Form for new protocols involving subjects less than 18 years of age. This form is avaible in the iRIS system.
