Internships

The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Office of Technology Management (OTM) is seeking applications for a part-time intern position. OTM assesses, protects, and commercializes the intellectual property created at the six Health Science Center schools through licensing rights to established business and through the formation of start-up companies.

The successful candidate for the intern position requires an interest in commercializing life sciences products, as well as at least one year towards an MBA, JD, or degree in a scientific field. Prior knowledge and experience in the life sciences is highly desirable. The position will be filled by a motivated individual capable of fast paced multi-tasking with excellent communication skills, a career interest in the business/legal aspects of intellectual property, and the ability to handle changing priorities.

Interns will report to OTM professional staff and be assigned various projects in the field of technology transfer. Specifically, interns may 1) assess patentability and commercial potential of new technologies generated within the Health Science Center 2) assist in the creation and execution of marketing strategies aimed at informing potential licensees about licensable technologies, 3) develop business plans specifying features such as commercialization strategies, timelines, and financials, 4) aid in working with entrepreneurs in the commercialization of intellectual property through the formation of start-up companies, and 5) participate in establishing deal structure and negotiation strategies for license agreements with companies.
