FRESH FROZEN PLASMA (FFP)

- Composition:
plasma, all coagulation factors, complements,
no platelets.
- Supply format:
one unit (bag) contains 220 ml.
- Indication:
treatment of factor deficiencies ( V, VII,
IX, X, XI, XIII, AT-III, alpha 2-antiplasmin).
- Dosage:
each unit usually increases each coagulation
factor by 2-3 %. Initial treatment often starts with
15 ml/kg of body weight. This is the equivalence of 4-6
units for an adult. The expected increase in coagulation
factor is 10-15%.
