PLATELET CONCENTRATE

Single-donor platelet:
  • Composition:
    platelets (>3*1011 /units), WBC's,plasma, RBC's.

  • Supply format:
    one bag contains 300 ml. Shelf life is 24 hours.

  • Indication:
    thrombocytopenia in patients with HLA platelet antibodies. Product is often HLA-matched.

  • Dosage:
    For a 70 kg body-weight adult, one unit of single-donor platelet will increase the platelet count by 30,000-60,000/ul. In children, one unit of single-donor platelet will increase the platelet count by 18,000/ul per 1kg of body weight.

Note:
  • Repeated platelet transfusion may lead to alloimmunization to HLA antigen and development of a refractory state requiring HLA-matched platelets.
  • Platelet transfusion is contraindicated in patients with ITP or TTP.
