Last Revision on: 12/9/96
- Biochemical aspects:
- Activation of Prekallikrein involves the cleavage of the
polypeptide chain by activated Hageman factor (Factor XII).
- Activated Kallikrein activates Factor XII as well as
plasminogen, Factor IX, HMWK, and prorenin.
- Pathological Basis:
- Mode of inheritance: autosomal recessive.
- Acquired deficiency of Prekallikrein has also been reported
for a number of conditions such as DIC, liver disease, Dengue
fever and nephrotic syndrome.
- Treatment:
No treatment necessary.
Diagnostic Criteria:
- Negative_bleeding_history
- APTT:abnormal
- Mixing_APTT:corrected
- APTT,incubated_10_min:corrected
- Prekallikrein_assay:abnormal
