Resident physicians at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston are employees of the UT System Medical Foundation (UTSMF).  Details regarding insurance benefits and payroll documentation can be found at the UTSMF website http://utsmf.hsc.uth.tmc.edu/ .

Resident/fellow salaries for the 2009-2010 academic year are tiered according to postgraduate year (PGY) as follows:

• PL-1 $42,482
• PL-2 $43,308
• PL-3 $44,532
• PL-4 $45,992

Each resident in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is provided with labcoats, a personal pager, and a generous book fund, which is renewed annually.  Additional funds are available to residents presenting at national meetings.  Residents have their own office space in the medical school within the pathology department.
