Our History:
In 2005, a group of UTHealth postdoctoral fellows began meeting regularly to discuss career opportunities. Subsequently, scientists from several professions were invited to speak about their careers. Out of this success, a core group of postdocs decided to formalize their cooperation into an association, creating a platform for peers to share their concerns and communicate with university administration. In the fall of 2009, the Postdoctoral Association (PDA) was officially registered as an organization of the institution.
Our Mission:
The Postdoctoral Association (PDA) Executive Committee is a group of postdoctoral fellows with diverse backgrounds yet a common goal of creating a healthy academic environment for postdocs at UTHealth in collaboration with the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs. Our mission is to provide resources for postdoctoral professional development, to foster a sense of community among postdocs, and to ensure all postdoctoral fellows at UTHealth are treated equally and fairly.

Our Strategy:
To accomplish these goals, we help postdocs learn about possible career pathways and expand their professional network through interaction with different professionals at career forums and monthly coffee breaks. We encourage scientific productivity through biannual travel award competitions. The Executive Committee also offers information to new postdoctoral fellows as they adjust to life in Houston and their job at UTHealth. Finally, we work with postdocs, faculty, and administrators to maintain an academic atmosphere of equality for all postdoctoral fellows.
