Professional Focus:

Dr. Arun K. Thittai has been working in the field of Ultrasound Elastography, imaging the elastic properties of soft tissues using ultrasound, since commencement of his PhD research work in 2004. He has been with the Ultrasonics and Elastographics laboratory at University of Texas Medical School at Houston since then but for a brief period of 1.5 years, when he undertook a postdoctoral fellowship at M.D.Anderson Cancer Center, Houston. The major focus of his dissertation was the development of Axial-Shear Strain Elastography (ASSE), a novel elastographic technique that opens the way for imaging the bonding properties at tissue interfaces. Currently, his research focuses on extending elastographic techniques, including ASSE modality, to several clinical applications. Dr. Thitai’s postdoctoral training focused on developing and optimizing high-frequency ultrasound imaging protocols for small animal imaging. During this time, he collaborated with MR imaging physicists and radiation oncologists towards developing a registered US-MR platform as a tool to investigate the radio-sensitization mechanism in cancer treatment. Prior to research in ultrasound Elastography, Dr. Thitai spent two years working in the bio-signal analysis lab at the University of Houston to develop signal processing algorithms for an automated system to detect seizures from neonatal EEG data.
