Professional Focus:
To define the practical applications of benefit/risk in the diagnostic and interventional uses of radiation in medicine.

Practical concerns with regard to the potential harm of interventional and diagnostic uses of x rays and radionuclides include radiation-induced injuries to patients, radiation carcinogenesis and radiation effects on the developing conceptus. MR and ultrasound have a similar set of concerns, although not at the same level as ionizing radiations. Managing the quality of benefits in diagnostic and interventional medicine against the magnitudes of the potential risks from these radiations is a paramount responsibility of our profession. My professional career is dedicated to the understanding of these tradeoffs and the application of this knowledge to patient care.
