Proteomics Core Laboratory

Facilities
The Proteomics Core offers two complementary mass spectroscopy centers, one located in the Medical School and a second in the Dental Branch. The Medical School facility has an Applied Biosystems QStar Elite tandem LCMSMS.

The QStar is a hybrid instrument and can be used for either electrospray ionization or MALDI Qq-TOF MSMS analysis. In the electrospray mode the instrument is equipped with a nano-spray source and an LC Packings capillary chromatography system for on line reverse phase LC analysis.

The lab also performs off-line 2-D HPLC separations using an Agilent 1200 series capillary chromatograph for improved resolution in the analysis of complex mixtures. The Dental Branch facility uses a Perkin-Elmer MDS Sciex ProToF MALDI QqTOF instrument that offers high resolution, high sensitivity analysis of peptides and proteins in a moderate-high throughput system that can analyze in a 96 or 384 well format.
