Performing any quantitative experiment requires a degree of rigor that may not be associated with other, non-quantitative techniques. There is ample evidence in the literature that proper rigor has not always been applied during the collection of real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) data for publication and is most likely true for quantitative ELISAs as well. The director of the QGCL is a co-author of the MIQE Guidelines (Minimal Information for Publication of Quantitative Real-time PCR Experiments), Bustin, SA, et al., Clinical Chemistry 55(4): 611-622, 2009). The publication and the included checklist of the bare requirements for publication of qPCR data sets and can be downloaded from: http://medgen.ugent.be/rdml/guidelines.php
Investigators that utilize the QGCL can rest assured that all procedures and the resulting data meet or exceed the MIQE recommendations. Consultations with the Director of the QGCL are recommended prior to initiating a project to ensure that all aspects will not only meet the MIQE guidelines but also to advise the investigator of the best procedures for all phases of the experiment.
In the same vein, it is critical that the steps of a quantitative ELISA experiment be well thought out ahead of time. The Director can assist investigators with important details for these experiments and a consultation prior to the initiation of a project is encouraged.
See the Technical Help tab for helpful information for both nucleic acid and protein experiments.
