Description

Developed at the University of Chicago through DWRF funding, CHAMP (the Curriculum for the Hospitalized Aging Medical Patient) is an educational program designed to train non-geriatrician clinical educators.  photo of an old man with childrenCHAMP combines the essential principles of geriatric inpatient care with teaching skills and tools suited for the challenges of an evolving inpatient environment. This ACGME competence based program enhances skills and knowledge, and includes various teaching materials to act as “bedside teaching triggers,” identifying options to teach geriatrics at the bedside or during rounds.

CHAMP training is suitable for general internists, hospitalists, geriatricians, family practitioners, fellows, physicians in training, and other physicians who care for hospitalized older adults.

All participants in the TEXAS CHAMP program are required to either attend the 1.5-day TEXAS CHAMP training workshop or complete the web-based Mini CHAMP program.

The Mini-CHAMP is a condensed web-based version of the CHAMP faculty development program. Mini CHAMP focuses on the core clinical issues in the care of hospitalized aging medical patients.  It extracts essential elements from each CHAMP topic area.  The module links are listed below. Each module contains one or more Mini-CHAMP presentations, bedside teaching tips, references and links and like CHAMP, the Mini-CHAMP content includes coverage of the ACGME core competencies of Practice Based Learning and Improvement (PBLI) and Systems Based Practice (SBP).
