Elder Abuse Training Initiative

two happy ladiesSeveral UTH geriatric faculty members are experts in elder abuse and neglect. A national curriculum (The Medical Management of Elder Abuse) was developed as a result of the work done by UTH faculty with funding from the Office of Justice Programs, NIJ.  An NIH funded grant in elder self-neglect research resulted in over 30 published papers and numerous presentations at scientific meetings.  Given that few physicians have knowledge or expertise in the subject of elder mistreatment, the TEXAS program is offering seminars for community based clinics and hospital departments in Houston.  Continuing medical education for physicians is available.
