QUICK FACT:
Student fourth-grade weekly library use is 40 percent, but drops to 10 percent by their senior year. Simply put, we have 100 percent in kindergarten and lose 75 percent of our potential lifetime readers by senior year.

FRIENDS OF ROR-TX
Friends of ROR is an enthusiastic group of volunteers. We come from all walks of life and always have fun. We hope you will join our group .

"I learned about ROR from a friend in Boston. I was excited to learn that ROR was also in Texas, and wanted to get involved. The great thing about ROR is that it's a simple program with a BIG impact. ROR programs focus on children living in poverty, but everyone needs to hear the message, READ TO YOUR BABY. A book sitting on a bookshelf is not doing anyone much good. When I was a teacher, I could always spot the children who had been read to, and those who had not. As a mother, I listen to my pediatrician. What a wonderful idea, doctors telling parents that they need to read to their children. Through Friends of ROR we are supporting the program in pediatric clinics all over the state. We want to spread the word about the importance of reading aloud to young children. " Hailey Etheridge Bechtol - President, Friends of ROR-TX

READ AND ROMP: Our main fundraising event is the READ and ROMP. It is an event inspired by selected children's books, featuring storybook activity stations, and lots more. Last year we raised $50,000 to support ROR Programs across the state. Click here to see highlights from READ and ROMP 2003.

The 2005 ROMP was held on February 5, 2005 in Houston. Once again, we raised over $50,000 to support Texas ROR Programs. Here are some highlights.
