A Brief Overview of ROR

1.) How Do We Start a ROR Program Site?

Contact the National ROR Center to request an application.
For information, call 617-629-8042.

Application deadlines are January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1.

When your application is complete, mail the original to the National ROR Center, and a copy to ROR -TX 7000 Fannin #2431 Houston, TX 77030 or fax to (713) 500-3034

3.) What is the role of the ROR site coordinator?

As on-site coordinator, you play an important role... to support and motivate your staff. Your responsibilities include:

  • Select, order, and distribute books - for help choosing books, click here
  • Click for book storage ideas and tracking ideas
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers
  • Network with community agencies
  • Maintain contact with the Reach Out and Read National Center and with Reach Out & Read-Texas
  • Complete progress reports - ROR sites are required to complete semi-annual progress reports in order to be eligible to receive sustainability funding from the National ROR Center.
  • Conduct program evaluation
You may also be involved with:
  • Finding future funding for books - to discuss funding and grant ideas, contact ROR-TX.
  • Coordinating special events like a program kick-off, or literacy celebrations
  • Evaluating the program's effectiveness with your Medical Director

4.) Do I Have To Fill Out Reports? Program sites are required to complete semi-annual progress reports in order to be eligible to receive substainability funding from the National ROR Center.

5.) What Is The ROR List Serve & How Do I Join ? Your clinic staff will want to sign up to be part of this national email distribution list. Being part of this listserve allows you to ask questions to other ROR programs across the country and receive early literacy information about your ROR program. Be up to date on everything about ROR. To subscribe, send an email to Carolyn Fuller at fuller@mitvma.mit.edu requesting that you be put on the list.
