Dr. Northrup is a clinical psychologist and researcher specializing in behavioral treatments for substance use disorders. Dr. Northrup also has psychometric research interests, particularly in the area of gender- and race-based measurement invariance. Currently he is the Site Principal Investigator for a Clinical Trials Network study with stimulant abusers. He is also the data manager/study coordinator for several other research projects, including studies involving motivational interviewing and acceptance/mindfulness-based interventions for pregnant smokers and opiate abusers, respectively. Additionally, Dr. Northrup teaches behavioral medicine to 1st–3rd year Family Medicine Residents.
