Dr. Avinash Bapat joined The University of Texas Medical School at Houston in August 2011. He received his medical degree from Bombay University. During his post graduate training in Bombay, he mastered the technique of Transesophageal Electrocardiography (TEE), also the subject of his thesis. He completed his residency at Jamaica Hospital, New York, and did his fellowship in Cardiology at State University of New York at Downstate Medical Center and King's County Hospital, New York. He is board certified in Cardiovascular Medicine and Internal Medicine
Prior positions include Chief of Staff at Memorial Hermann Southeast, Director of the Heart Catheterization Lab at Memorial Hermann Southeast, and Chief of Cardiology at New York Medical College at Metropolitan Hospital Center. Dr. Bapat helped establish the Heart Catheterization Lab at Memorial Hermann Southeast.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Chest Physicians, the American College of Angiology, and the American Heart Association. Dr. Bapat has received the prestigious recognition of Master, American Academy of Cardiology.
Dr. Bapat’s clinic office is based at the Memorial Southeast Professional Building. He has served on many committees at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital. He was named Physician of the Year in 2007 at Memorial Hermann Southeast and is a Trustee member at Memorial Hermann Hospital System.
Dr. Bapat is the author of many papers and articles and chaired multiple cardiology conferences while serving as Chief of Cardiology at New York Medical College.
His clinical interests include Imaging Techniques in Coronary Artery Disease and Acute Coronary Care.
