The Division of Critical Care Medicine at The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston offers critical care services to patients with acute, critical illness in various Intensive Care Units at both Memorial Hermann Hospital and Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital. All attending physicians are fully trained in critical care medicine and the majority are trained in Pulmonary Medicine. Members of the critical care team are on call 24/7 to diagnose and treat patients with acute illnesses that can develop from major surgical intervention, advanced cancer or chronic diseases, including sepsis, multi-organ failure, shock and cardiovascular collapse. Our critical care physicians provide care to patients admitted to various ICU’s including: Medical ICU (MICU), Cardiac Care Unit (CCU), Cardio-Vascular ICU (CVICU), Transplant ICU (TSICU) and Burns ICU. Pulmonary and Critical Care fellows provide "in-house" 24 hour coverage for all ICU’s and work together with residents and students.

The faculty and fellows are closely involved in the education of medical students and residents. Our faculty lecture at regional, national and international meetings and symposiums, and our fellows have presented research projects and case reports at national annual conferences, including American College of Chest Physicians and The American Thoracic Society. Many of our faculty also participate in clinical research and quality improvement projects. Finally, both our faculty and fellows organize and direct the 4^th year medical student critical care course at the UT School of Medicine.
