The Division of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine has outpatient clinics at UTP Bellaire Clinic and Settegast Health Center.
The Settegast Geriatric Outpatient Clinic provides comprehensive primary care for older people. Additionally, subspecialists and internists/general practitioners can also request a consult for specific geriatric issues.
In addition to managing patients with complicated medical histories, geriatricians are trained to diagnose and treat conditions that are common in older people, including:
- Difficulties with memory
- Urinary tract disorders
- Decreasing physical function
- Fluctuations in mood
- Sleep and appetite disorders
- Palliative Care
- Wound Care
- Medication reviews
- Preventive screenings and immunizations
- Help with linking seniors with local services
Palliative care includes non-pharmacological and pharmacological management of difficult-to-treat symptom complexes with the goal of maintaining the patients’ treatment goals and his/her quality of life.
Common Symptom Complexes in Palliative Medicine:
- Pain
- Shortness of Breath
- Constipation
- Chronic Nausea
- Delirium
- Anxiety
- Fatigue
The Settegast and LBJ Palliative clinic offers multidisciplinary treatment plans. Our lab is on-site and imaging is nearby.
The Settegast clinic is staffed by Dr. Carmel B. Dyer, Dr. John Halphen and a nurse practitioner, Shreda Pairé, MS, RN, FNP-C, ACHPN.
The Palliative Clinic at LBJ is staffed by Dr. Marvin Delgado-Guay.
