Infectious Diseases

The Division of Infectious Diseases strives to provide excellent consultative care at multiple locations.  The faculty work at Memorial Hermann Hospital—The Medical Center and the Lyndon Baines Johnson Hospital.  Out-patient venues include the Thomas Street HIV Clinic, UT Professional Building for general ID consults and the West Loop Clinic for travel medicine.  Our clinicians are recognized for their expertise and have won awards for their service. 
Our teaching efforts span all four years of medical school, all levels of internal medicine residents and fellows in infectious diseases.  Our faculty are also often called upon to be visiting professors and to lecture at national and international meetings.

The research efforts of the division have been very successful with excellent ongoing funded research in emerging infections, antibiotic resistance, enteric infections, mycology, tuberculosis, and HIV.

Patients should be interested in seeking the help of one of our infectious disease physicians because they are well qualified and competent but most of all they care about the welfare of the patient.  Our physicians’ advice is sought by other physicians; we are accustomed to being consulted for complex and perplexing problems.  We embrace the challenge of helping to get patients well.  The division has expertise in not only general infectious disease issues but special expertise in travel medicine, HIV care, fungal and tuberculosis infections, infectious diarrhea and antibiotic resistant organisms.
