those who may need or who have received a liver transplant. |
The
Center for Swallowing Disorders
Swallowing is a bodily
function normally taken for granted; however, impairment of this function
can produce symptoms that are both troublesome and, at times, frightening.
Severe difficulty with swallowing can lead to weight loss, malnutrition
and even, on occasion, pneumonia. Because of the complicated nature
of swallowing disorders, a multi-disciplinary effort is often required
to effect proper diagnosis and management.
The primary purpose of The Center
for Swallowing Disorders is to optimize the care of these
patients as they proceed through the diagnostic and therapeutic
pathways, and also to provide a forum for research and both professional
and lay education. Diagnostic Services:

team members review the problem and the treatment approach that
is best for the patient. Ongoing teaching and research
takes place involving swallowing difficulties. An emphasis is placed
on continued communications with the referring physician.
