Dr. Johnson completed his medical school and residency at Baylor
College of Medicine in 1979, and a Fellowship in Infectious
Disease at the University
of Texas-Houston Medical School in 1982. He
was appointed Division Director in 1989 and is actively involved
in clinical patient care, teaching, and research. Dr. Johnson
is the Associate Program Director of the University
Clinical Research Center at Memorial
Hermann Hospital with interest in the research areas
of gastrointestinal and fungal infections, and AIDS.
His research awards include, but are not limited to, grants
from NASA and leading
pharmaceutical companies.

Dr. Boisaubin joined
our Division in 2001 as a Professor of Medicine with tenure.
Dr. Boisaubin is active on the medical staff at Memorial Hermann
Hospital and Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital, and is also
affiliated with the University Clinical Research Center (UTMSH)
as an Ethicist for Clinical Research and as a Faculty Associate
in the Program on Humanities and Technology in Health Care.
Dr. Boisaubin also serves as the Associate Director of the
Internal Medicine Residency Program.

Janine Catalano, PhD, NP-C

Dr. Catalano received
her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Louisiana
State University, New Orleans in 1986, and her Masters
of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas Health
Science Center-Houston in 1994. She received her Family
Nurse Practitioner Certification from The University
of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1995, and completed
her nursing education in 1997 at The University of Texas
Health Science Center-Houston. She
was appointed an Instructor in Internal Medicine in 2002.
She provides on-site Internal Medicine consultations
at Harris County Psychiatric Center, instructs and supervises
psychiatric residents, and serves as a liaison between
the departments of Internal Medicine and Psychiatry.
Dr. Catalano received her PhD in October 2006 from Texas
Women's University.

Evelyn C. Chan, M.D., M.S.

Dr. Chan joined out Division in 1996. Her interests
lie in the research areas of informed consent, physician-patients
communication and end-of-life issues. Her research awards
include, a career development grant from the NIH
to study informed consent for a controversial screening blood
test and is developing ethical guidelines for the compassionate
use of hyperbaric medicine.

Dr. Colletti received her medical school training from
Boston
University School of Medicine and completed her Residency in Internal
Medicine at Temple University,
1980-1983. Dr. Colletti joined our Division in 1991, and works primarily
in the ambulatory setting. She is the Director of the Ambulatory
Care Rotation for Internal Medicine residents and is the Internal Medicine
Clerkship Director for third year medical students. Her main interests
are in medical education and preventive health.

Fabrizia Faustinella, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Faustinella holds the position of Associate Professor in the Department of
Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine. She has done research in human genetics
and gene therapy at the University
of Milano, Italy and at Baylor College of Medicine. She
has published numerous articles in the field of research as
well as several book chapters. More recently, she has
been heavily involved in medical education and in the development
of effective teaching strategies for medical students and
residents. Dr. Faustinella has also continued to provide continuity of
care to a large patient base while working and training our
future doctors.

Robin Hardwicke, PhD, AACRN, FNP

Dr. Hardwicke joined our Division in 2004. She has been practicing as a family nurse practitioner since 1999 specializing in emergency medicine and HIV/AIDS. In 2005 she received the Joanne Ruiz Achievement Award for Excellence in Clinical Practice, on the national level, for the treatment of individuals infected with HIV/AIDS. She serves as Director at large on the HIV/AIDS Nursing Certification Board (HANCB) for the 2005-2008 term. Dr. Hardwicke is currently the Associate Medical Director for St. Hope Foundation and provides care and management of therapy to individuals infected with HIV/AIDS. She also instructs and supervises nurse practitioner students, medical students, residents, and fellows in this care.

Cheves M. Smythe, M.D.

Dr. Smythe was the first Dean of the University
of Texas-Houston Medical School. Dr. Smythe served as Dean
Pro Tem at UT-Houston Medical School from 1995-1996 and as the Chief of
Medicine at Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital from 1991-1995. He
has also served as the Chairman of the Department of Medicine and the Dean
for the Aga Khan Medical School in
Pakistan. He has completed a fellowship in Geriatrics at UCLA.
He was appointed by Baylor College of
Medicine and UT-Houston Medical
School to head the Affiliated Medical Services of the Harris
County Hospital District 1994-1996.

Eric J. Thomas, M.D., M.P.H.

Dr. Thomas joined UT Houston Medical
School in 1998. He is a general internist
at Memorial Hermann Hospital and teaches students and
residents at UT Houston Medical School. Since 1992
Dr. Thomas has conducted research on patient safety, and his work
was heavily cited in the Institute of Medicine's landmark
report on medical error. With funding from the Robert
Wood Johnson Foundation, Dr. Thomas has collaborated closely
with Dr. Robert Helmreich to translate safety practices
from aviation to healthcare. Drs. Thomas and Helmreich
are currently Co-Principal Investigators of The University
of Texas Center of Excellence for Patient Safety Research
and Practice funded by the U.S. Agency for Healthcare
