Dr. Hardeep Singh

Hardeep Singh, MD, MPH

is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Baylor College of Medicine and a Research Scientist at the Houston VA HSR&D Center of Excellence. He is the Co-director of the Center of Inquiry to Improve Outpatient Safety through Effective Electronic Communication, funded by the VA National Center for Patient Safety. This center uses a multidisciplinary approach including human factors engineering to improve systems of communication through the VA's electronic medical record (CPRS). Additionally, he is funded through several federal grants from the AHRQ and NIH for patient safety related research and implementation activities. Dr. Singh has significant expertise in the study of medical errors, patient safety, and health care quality, including translating aviation safety practices to health care and evaluating system and provider factors that lead to errors in health care. He is a nationally recognized expert in improving patient safety through electronic medical records and on using health information technology to identify and reduce medical errors and has participated in several national expert committees and invited conferences.
