Robert E. Lasky, PhD
is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT-HMS. He serves as the Director of the Design and Analysis Support Services in the Center for Clinical Research and Evidence Based Medicine. Dr. Lasky has over 35 years experience in biomedical research. His primary research interests concern developmental neuroscience, but his collaborations include research with adults and other organ systems. His clinical work has been conducted in hospitals and clinics, field settings (rural Guatemala), and the laboratory. A theme of that research has been reliably assessing functional capabilities predictive of long-term outcome in challenging settings. Those assessments include surveys, behavioral, physiological, and more recently functional and structural (primarily MRI and EEG) imaging measures. An important component of Dr. Lasky's research involves implementing and evaluating interventions in high risk populations. His research with animal models (rhesus monkey and rat) has focused on the effects of lead, PCBs, methylmercury, and iron deficiency on growth and development and emphasizes translating results to the human condition. His research has been supported by the NIH, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and other funding sources.
