Financial support

All Ph.D. students enrolled in the MMG program are guaranteed a competitive stipend throughout their training. This stipend is provided by the graduate school during the first two years and by the thesis advisor in subsequent years. All stipends are research assistantships, so unlike stipends at some graduate schools, they do not come with a requirement to teach or to do other things that detract from your graduate education. The stipend is currently $26,000 per year, and all tuition costs are paid for you. As a graduate student you will be considered a 50% employee of the university and will receive employee health insurance benefits. While the stipend is comparable to that of other US schools, the cost of living in Houston is only 80% of the national average, so your $26,000 goes further in Houston.

Applicants with strong academic credentials and matriculated students whose performance is exemplary will also be considered for supplemental merit scholarships offered through the GSBS.
