Multiple Sclerosis
The Multiple Sclerosis Research Group focuses on fundamental and applied research approaches in neuroimmunology and advanced magnetic resonance imaging to better understand the pathogenesis and treatment of MS. Organized in 1983 under the leadership of Bartels Family and Opal C. Rankin Professor of Neurology Dr. Jerry S. Wolinsky, the team has participated in more than 20 clinical trails of potential new symptomatic and disease modifying therapies. The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston was the lead center for a number of these international studies. Several of the trials were pivotal in supporting current FDA treatments for MS.
