Good Neighbor Healthcare Center (GNHC)

The University of Texas at Houston Health Science Center is partnering with the Good Neighbor Healthcare Center (GNHC) in establishing a med-peds resident continuity community clinic that will provide quality, accessible primary health care to an underserved community. GNHC is a nonprofit organization and federally qualified health center that was first established in the 1960s. The UT Houston Med-Peds continuity clinic is part of the expansion of GNHC at the Northside clinic building minutes away from LBJ hospital. Our clinic address is 8504 Schuller Road, Houston, TX 77093. All patients are welcomed. For more information regarding GNHC, please visit their Web site.

Continuity Clinic

Each of our Medicine/Pediatrics residents has their own continuity clinic that they attend weekly. Clinics are on the same half day each week, and are morning or afternoon. Previously, residents alternated between medicine and pediatric clinics. Since the fall of 2010, residents transitioned their continuity clinic to the Good Neighbor North Clinic, which is a combined medicine and pediatrics afternoon only clinic. There are residents of different training levels in each clinic. Patients are a mixture of insured and uninsured and sprawl across all socioeconomic levels. Residents are encouraged to send their patients that they cared for in the hospital to their continuity clinic. Residents are closely supervised their intern year and act independently towards they end of their training years.

Pre-clinic conference is held every week to improve knowledge of ambulatory medicine. We cover basic topics such as diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. Other topics include practice management, interpreting basic labs, and health disparities. Board review questions are also covered during pre-clinic conference.
