About Dr. Yang

Dr. Yang graduated from Rice University in 1997 with a B.A. in Biochemistry. He then went on to complete his M.D. at the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA in 2001. Dr. Yang completed his post-graduate training with a transitional internship at the University of Pittsburgh in 2002, and a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine in 2005. He is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Since 2006, Dr. Yang has been a clinical assistant professor at UT-Houston. He is a frequent and close collaborator with the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery clinically. Some of these efforts include assuming primary medical care of orthopaedic and trauma patients at the Memorial Hermann Hospital Inpatient Rehabilitation Service, outpatient consultation at the Memorial Hermann/TIRR clinic, and performing EMG/NCS (electrodiagnosis).

Dr. Yang’s primary clinical interest areas are the rehabilitation and functional improvement of orthopaedic patients, rehabilitation after catastrophic injury, neuropathic pain, pain management, electrodiagnostic studies, and work related injuries. Other services provided by him include impairment ratings and determination of maximum medical improvement after complex injuries.

Other interests of Dr. Yang’s include healthcare informatics, healthcare economics and reform, and appropriate utilization of healthcare spending in patient care.

Research Interests:

  • Osteoporosis, work-related injuries, neurological recovery

Teaching Activities

  • Teach UT & BCM residents, students, fellows. Currently serving as Faculty mentor for the UTHSC-H PM&R Interest group
