Refugee Assessment Study
The objectives of this project, sponsored by the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health, include translating, editing, and back translating from English into Arabic-, Serbo-Croatian-, Spanish, and Vietnamese. A second objective is to use the translated or edited measures to identify new refugees with a mental disorder or at risk for a mental disorder. The third objective is to monitor symptoms in a systematic way every 3-months (or more frequently if the participant is at extreme risk) until evidence suggests adequate mental health functioning. A standard battery of key self-report measures is needed in the different
languages. Some key measures already are available in some languages
but not in others. The long-term objective of the proposed investigation
is to create a battery that can be used to screen mental health problems
among refugees who speak Arabic, Serbo-Croatian, Spanish and Vietnamese.
Another long-term objective is to disseminate the newly developed measures
along with evidence of their sensitivity in identifying those with or at
risk of mental problems.
