RADAR
[Research Aimed at Depression and Anxiety Reduction (in COPD)]

RADAR is an education program aimed at decreasing symptoms of anxiety and depression in veterans with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or emphysema.  Excessive levels of anxiety and depression can make it more difficult to cope with COPD.  Classes designed to address symptoms of anxiety and depression are available through the RADAR program.  Please contact the RADAR program (713-794-8618) if you are a veteran with COPD or emphysema experiencing sadness, worry, or anxiety. 

Treatment 

  • Designed to assist veterans with COPD and anxiety or depression
  • Uses an education framework to teach specific skills to decrease anxiety and depression
The Program 
  • 18 weeks of structured classes
  • Small group format (4-6 individuals) led by trained professionals
  • Educational Opportunities
    • Self-statement skills
    • Relaxation skills
    • Problem solving training
    • Sleep management skills
  • One year follow-up phase to monitor the maintenance of coping skills
