Deborah A. Pearson, Ph.D. received her bachelor's degree from Wesleyan University (Middletown, CT) in 1979, her master and doctoral degrees in psychology from Rice University (Houston, TX) in 1982 and 1986, respectively. After working on the Pediatric Consultation/Liaison Service at Texas Children's Hospital and being a visiting faculty member at Rice University, she joined the UT-Houston Medical School psychiatry faculty in 1987. Currently she is Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Texas - Houston Medical School, working in the Center for Human Development Research and the Child Psychiatry Division. A licensed psychologist, she evaluates infants, children, and adolescents having a variety of developmental and behavioral problems, including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Mental Retardation (MR), Learning Disabilities, etc. She works closely with a number of community agencies serving children, such as the Arc of Greater Houston (formerly the Association for Retarded Citizens). As an active researcher in the area of applied developmental psychology, Dr. Pearson directs the ADHD Research Laboratory of the CHDR, where she studies attentional and behavioral problems in children and adolescents with ADHD, MR, and a variety of disruptive behavior problems (e.g., Conduct Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder). She has worked extensively in the area of medication treatments for children with developmental and behavioral problems, as well as being involved with medication treatment protocols for infants, children with HIV infection. She is also well known for her work in the development of cognitive processes in children.
