Dr. Loveland is a developmental neuropsychologist whose research has centered on developmental psychopathology, particularly in children, adolescents and adults with autism, mental retardation or HIV disease. Dr. Loveland is best known for her research on the development of communication and social behavior in persons with autism (funded by NIDCD). Her current research on autism, a program project funded by the National Institute on Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), focuses on the neuropsychology of autism and its relationship to socio-emotional behavior. Dr. Loveland is also known for her work as one of the primary investigators of the Hemophilia Growth and Development Study, a fifteen-center, longitudinal study of neurodevelopment in children and adolescents with hemophilia, with and without HIV infection. The HGDS was also funded by NICHD, as well as by NIMH, OMCH, and the CDC. From 1993-97 Dr. Loveland was a member of the NIH AIDS and Related Research - G Study Section (AIDS and Neuroscience). Currently she is a member of the Brain Disorders and Clinical Neuroscience - 5 Study Section. In 2001, Dr. Loveland became Assistant Dean for Faculty Affairs at the University of Texas Medical School, Houston. She has a long standing interest in faculty development issues, and in 1995 was recognized as the first recipient of the UTHSC-H President's Award for Mentoring Women (faculty). She was among the founding members of the UTHSC-H Association of Women Faculty and has been active in the Association for Women in Science as well. In 1998-99 she was selected as a Fellow of the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine Program for Women (ELAM), at the Medical College of Pennsylvania - Hahneman University. A licensed psychologist, Dr. Loveland was Director of the Developmental Neuropsychology Clinic at the University of Texas Mental Sciences Institute from 1985 until 2002. Her clinical specialty is the diagnosis and evaluation of autistic spectrum disorders in children and adolescents. |
