works. Workshops are free of charge to UT-Houston faculty, staff and students.

The Workstations
The UT-Houston Office of Academic Computing Multimedia
and Courseware Creation Stations provides the tools necessary for faculty, staff
and students at the University of Texas at Houston
to create first class courseware, web pages and multimedia presentations.
The Office of Academic Computing has brought together
first class authoring software and solid multimedia hardware in order to provide
the user with the latest and simplest tools necessary
for creating electronic media. The following is a listing of the hardware and
specifications as well as a list of capabilities provided

- Archive files (Accounting Data, Web pages, Large Data sets) from remote
file systems to a CD ROM
- Create CD's for presentations with MS Presentation software including graphics
- Create MPEG CD's of existing video VHS / S-Video / Betamax tape
- Create MPEG movie clips from VHS / S-Video / Betamax tape
- Web Pages for Courseware, department pages for staff and faculty
- Create or convert Audio Stream Files for serving up on the University's
Audio Stream Server
- Graphics and animation creation
- Scan Paper Documents and convert them to Word Processor Files with Optical
Character Recognition (OCR)
- Scan manuscripts up to 50 pages at a time unattended with the document
feeder.
- Scan slides and transparencies with the transparency adapter
- Convert graphic images into alternate formats
- Available for use by anyone in the university at no charge. Assistance
is available upon request.
How to Schedule the use of these machines
Call OAC (713) 500-3501 and request time on one of the machines.
You should state what features that you wish to use so that the correct machine
can be reserved. Give the time and date you would like to reserve and specify
if you will need any help creating your documents.
