2007 Salutation and Fall Bash
On September 13, 2007, the Student InterCouncil welcomed new students and returning students by providing refreshments and hosting information booths about the many resources available to UT Houston students.  Dr. Willerson, president of UT Houston, spoke to students as well as deans from all six schools.  Students who attended the Salutation Party had the opportunity to interact with new students, students from different schools and mingle with the deans from each of the schools.

2007 UTPD Toy Drive
Each year, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Police department holds a Holiday Toy Drive to benefit local children.  Members of the Student InterCouncil purchased $250 worth of toys to be donated to the UT Police for this year's Holiday Toy Drive.  We would like to take time to thank Kari Brewer, Vanessa Banks-Gonzalez, Carlos Ramos, and Monica Sierra for delivering these toys to police and making an extra special holiday possible for the children.  We would also like to thank UTPD for their continuing support of our local community and their efforts to bring smiles to the faces of children.

Diwali Celebration - Bringing Indian culture and tradition to life in the School of Public Health
On November 9, 2007, the School of Public Health Student Association in collaboration with the Student InterCouncil celebrated Diwali through a festival at The University Of Texas Health Science Center School of Public Health. Diwali is a major Indian festive holiday, celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Buddhist, and Sikhs across the world as the Festival of Lights, where the lights represent the victory of good over evil within every human being. At the celebration students gave a presentation on Diwali, sang traditional Indian songs, fashion show, and a traditional Bhangra dance. The festival also served many Indian delicacies such as samosas, gulab jamun, and pakora. Also mendhi artists illustrated henna designs at the Mendhi station and displayed a rangoli art piece. Many students from various Texas Medical Center schools were in attendance. The Diwali celebration was made possible by support from the School of Public Health Student Association and the Student InterCouncil.

TMC provided food, gifts and fun – Did you miss out?

On January 24 from 4-6pm, the Texas Medical Center Student Affairs Advisory Council sponsored a social event for all students of the Texas Medical Center.  The social was held in one of the private lounges of Trevisio’s, who provided quesadillas and chips and salsa.  There was a raffle of donated gifts from schools including shirts, bags, and jump drives, and Starbucks donated a large gift basket.  Many students from different institutions came by to mingle and make new friends.  Don’t miss the next event in March; keep your eyes open for emails and fliers around campus.
