Student Insurance Questions/Concerns/Complaints?—SIC Can Help!
The Student InterCouncil (SIC) has received several complaints about the current student insurance provider, United Healthcare (formerly MegaLife). We have taken these complaints to the Student Affairs advisors at UT System in Austin. UT System has agreed to look into these complaints, but wants students to be aware of their options concerning student insurance:
If you are having problems getting a claim paid, contact Ronda Gillie or Charlie Figari, the campus insurance coordinators, 713-500-8400.
Every three years UT System evaluates the contract with the student insurance provider (currently United Healthcare), and every six years (every second evaluation) companies are allowed to bid for new contracts.
Because of these upcoming evaluations, we are in the process of building a comprehensive list of issues that need to be addressed. Therefore, the SIC asks that you send notice of any complaints against United Healthcare, as well as a list of treatments/procedures/illnesses that are not covered by our current student health insurance, to sicgov@uth.tmc.edu. Your name will be kept confidential (specific claim numbers are not needed).
The ultimate goal is to provide the best quality insurance to meet the needs of our students for a reasonable price.
