Strategic Planning

In 2004, The University of Texas System instituted the development of compacts for each UT institution. UTHSC-H's Compact is a written agreement between the Chancellor of The University of Texas System and President Willerson that summarizes the institution's major goals and priorities for a specified two-year period. The latest Compact covers fiscal years 2007 - 2008 and is updated annually each August.

Recognizing the need to re-establish the health science center's longer term strategic planning process and link it to the priorities set forth in the Compact, leaders at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHSC-H), embarked in fall 2005 on a new strategic planning initiative designed to map out aseries of directions for the next three legislative biennia. Under the direction of the Office of the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, Deans and Vice Presidents were asked to develop a list of priorities for their area and worked toward developing and refining a series of measureable objectives for the health science center's future growth. This Strategic Planning Leadership Team has and will continue to meet quarterly. Progress toward meeting UTHSC-H's internal Compact and Strategic Directions goals will be updated on a quarterly basis (October, January, April, July) following Leadership Team meetings.

The UT System Board of Regents, in August 2006, adopted a System-wide strategic plan that lays out ambitious goals for growth and excellence in all mission-critical areas. Chancellor Yudof has urged each component campus to begin planning in earnest and strive to link local planning and compact efforts with those now underway at UT System. Borrowing from UT System, the graphic below demonstrates the relationship between these three reports and accountability efforts.
