Objective 6
Increase Graduate Medical Education funding for trainees and faculty

Research indicates that medical residents, upon completion of their training, are more likely to practice where they train. Providing stable and sufficient financial support for faculty contributions to resident education will strengthen current programs and allow for a more competitive environment.

  • Seek continued and enhanced legislative support for Graduate Medical Education (GME) to supplement $3 million received for the 2006-2007 biennium.
  • Seek increased support from Memorial Hermann Healthcare System (MHHCS) and Harris County Hospital District (HCHD) partners.
  • Broaden funding to other specialties (e.g., dental).
