FAQ FROM TRAINERS INTERESTED IN BECOMING A PART OF THE TEXAS TRAINER REGISTRY
Q. If I fill in the online registration, am I automatically accepted?
A: No, this is a peer reviewed system, so whether you turn in your documents online or on paper, it must be reviewed and approved before it will appear in the search.
Q. If I fill in the online registration, do I still have to attend orientation?
A: Yes, orientation is still necessary. You MUST turn in your certificate from completed orientation WITH your application. With orientation online now, you can take this short course whenever it is convenient to you.
Q. I am filling in my application online now. Is it okay to send this in, and then send in my proof of orientation later?
A: No. Incomplete packets are not kept, so it will save you mailing and copy costs if you turn in everything only once.
Q. I am sending in my registration packet. How can I get back my original certificates/documentation?
A: You must send copies of certificates and proof of education. Your training packet, if approved, is kept intact and never returned. If your packet is not complete or is not accepted, your information will be destroyed, not returned.
Q. I am already a registered trainer. Can I fill in just the online training proposal form for a training in a CKA for which I am already approved? And, if I do, will my training go online immediately?
A: Yes and No, in that order. Yes, you can fill in the form online for a CKA you are already approved, but your training will not go online immediately. They are first checked, even for approved CKAs.
Q. What is the difference between turning in the first course in a CKA and turning in another course in the same CKA?
A: The first time you turn in a course in a CKA, you must provide the necessary supporting documentation. Once you are approved in a CKA, you no longer need to provide support for that CKA.
Q. I filled in a online Training Proposal Form, but I got an error message. What is the likely issue?
A: There are a few things that may have happened.
- look for empty fields, even 8a and 8b. All fields must be completed
- make sure you did not cut and paste out of Microsoft Word, because that program can add extra, unseen code
- make sure you did not exceed the letter limit. Each field allows only a certain amount of content, so be concise and clear.
Q. I have questions about learning objectives. How do I write learning objectives?
A. For now, we suggest you look on the Internet for "Mager Learning Objective". There are several resources for these. In general, learning objectives should be measurable. We will create an online tutorial on learning objectives soon.
Q. I was previewing the online orientation for TECECDS. There it gives me an ID. Can I use that to advertise my association with the Texas Training Registry?
A. Absolutely not. That is not an official TECECDS membership. The orientation ID and passcode allow you to access "information for applicants" while applying. Once you are an approved trainer, you will get a membership card and your official trainer number.
Q. I would still like to take the orientation at a face to face session. Is that still available or is it only online?
A. We still have orientation at face to face sessions. Check the home page for special sessions and look at your local AEYC and HeadStart Web sites.
Q. I have completed a training from one the TECECDS trainers but the training did not meet the time limit advertised and on my certificate of attendance (which shows the clock hours given for the training). Whom do I contact, and how to I resolve this difference?
A. If your employer has asked for the training and set it up for you, contact your employer about resolving this breech of contract with the trainer.
If you hired the trainer, you should contact the trainer directly about this issue.
Q. How long does the application process take?
A. The application processes is detailed in our “Application Timeline” chart. Please click here to take a look.Q. Where can I find information about upcoming TOT classes?
A. TOT resources can be found on the website’s “Resources” section. TOT classes can also offered at conferences. A list of upcoming events and conferences can also be found in the Resources section.
FAQ FROM THOSE USING THE TEXAS TRAINER REGISTRY TO SEEK TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
Q. How do I find out the cost of the training?
A. The fees for the training courses listed on the registry are determined by each Trainer. For information about the cost of a specific course, you must complete and submit a “contact form”, which will be sent directly to the trainer. The trainer in turn will respond to your request and provide you with the additional details of their training, including cost information.Q. If I locate a course by “county”, does this mean that the trainers are located in that county?
A. No. Not necessarily. The training courses listed under a certain county are listed there because this was selected as a county the trainer is willing to travel to. We are currently working on adding the county the trainer is located in, in order to assist those who are looking for local trainers only.Q. Are any trainings offered free of charge?
A. The trainers listed on the registry charge for their services. If any of them offer any free sessions, it may be posted on the “News” section of the website, or you must get the information from the trainer.Q. Are trainer’s willing to travel?
A. Most trainers are willing to travel, but this must first be negotiated with the trainer, should a fee be involved. For information about travel, you must complete and submit a “contact form”, which will be sent directly to the trainer. The trainer in turn will respond to your request and provide you with the additional details of their training, including travel information.Q. Are there listings of trainings offered online?
A. Yes. There are several online courses listed on the registry. These courses can be found in the general list, and can be distinguished by the “(Web-based)” in front of the title.Q. Are there listings of trainings offered in other languages?
A. Yes. There are several online courses offered in languages other than English. These courses can be found on the general list, and can be distinguished by the title. Example: “(Spanish taught) SIDS Basics for Every Center”. Some titles are actually in the language the course is taught in.Q. Why should I choose a Registry approved trainer over another trainer?
