Maria Barrientos
Maria Barrientos

My name is Maria Barrientos and I am currently a Sr. Administrative Coordinator in the Executive VP Office for Academic and Research Affairs.  I served 4 years on the council, 3 of which I was Chair for the Educational Awards Committee.   As part of the council I was able to network and meet many other Classified Staff throughout the University.   Being on the council gave me the opportunity  to meet many of the voices that I have dealt with over the years.  I have also been able to learn more about what happens behind the scenes and have been able to give my feedback regarding issues that affect the Classified Staff. Through the years I have always tried to take part in the various events throughout the University and have enjoyed every single one of them. I am eager and ready to serve!

For the coming year I am up for re-election and, with your vote, I would be honored to continue serving with the hope of making a difference for all employees at each of our schools, institutes, clinics, programs, and administration. I would like to energize others and encourage involvement in the future of the university. In the words of Chancellor Cigarroa, we "represent of the most important U. T. System asset Our human capital".
We can achieve a vision to inform and guide employees while working toward the initiatives and collaborations in support of UTHealth. Through the UCSC, we have an opportunity to make a difference for all employees. We need people representing us who are willing to make decisions based on what is right for all of us. I have 26 years of experience at UTHealth and working with this Council I have been inspired to do more and to get involved. If re-elected, I pledge my dedication to continue serving you in our quest for excellence.

Thank you.
Rocio Lara
Rocio Lara

My name is Rocio and I'm in Telecommunications. After being with UT for 5 years, I have decided to become more involved in as many UTHealth activities as possible. I believe I have much to offer and can represent employees in the many facets of being an employee of UTHealth. My current position gives me the ability to collaborate with different departments and hopefully serving on this council will help broaden that spectrum. In addition to that, this past year, I volunteered at the Houston Food Bank and the UT House Medics as part of the University. By becoming a UCSC member, I hope to help UTHealth employees work together to share goals and ideas for great outcomes. I believe I will be a great benefit to the council and believe the council will benefit from my service.
Please vote for me!

Tricia Hill-Thomas
Tricia Hill-Thomas

My name is Tricia Hill-Thomas, and I’m a Sr. Staff Assistant in the Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences (CCTS) located in the UPB. I’m proud to say I’ve been with UT for 7 years and was introduced to the UCSC a few years ago. I decided to get involved last year. I served as a non-voting member this past year, and it has allowed me to come face to face with some of my peers that I work with on a regular basis but never actually met before, and it has opened my eyes as to what goes on behind the scenes of UTHealth as a whole. Being a part of the UCSC allows us to collaborate and engage in all aspects of the day-to-day logistics of UTHealth and what it takes to run this organization, and it takes “US” as concerned individuals coming together as one sharing our thoughts and putting the pieces together for the big picture. I’ve been privileged to be a part of the Educational Committee and was able to help with organizing the Boo-Bag fundraiser. I'm glad to have been a part of making a change and will continue to do my part in getting the word out about the University Classified Staff Council.

I look forward to a great year and would appreciate your vote.
Amanda Thurson
Amanda Thurson

My name is Amanda Thurson and I work in the Billing and Receivables department. Although, I have only worked for The University of Texas Health Science Center for a year, my position allows me to collaborate with different departments and act as a liaison between external customers.
This past year, I volunteered to help with Boo Bags and I really enjoyed the experience working with the UCSC members. By becoming a UCSC member, I will listen to individual team members and work as a team sharing creative, problem-solving ideas, which will promote positive changes. I believe that I am hardworking and creative which will be an asset to the committee and bring new initiatives to the university. Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to serving on the council.

As a proud employee of UTHealth, I would be honored to represent its distinguished classified staff as a UCSC member and promote the council's vision to create positive change throughout the university community. As a current member of Financial and Business Services, specifically Procurement Services, I offer a unique blend of professionalism, creativity, dependability, and passion. My daily responsibilities include a variety of people, roles, challenges, and achievements, and I embrace each as an opportunity to sharpen my skill set while building lasting relationships.

I look forward to being an active part of the UCSC team, and, ultimately, making a significant contribution to the UTHealth legacy of excellence.

I served as an altnerate this last term and loved the events we participated in. I started with UTH a year an a half ago and wanted to become involved in things around the university. I found out about you all through nominations like this and wanted to learn what you all were about. After being apart of UCSC, I have met new friends, colleagues, and participated in several events. I love being apart of a group of people who feel strongly about issues concerning our workplace and who love to volunteer as well.

It is essential fact while serving as an UCSC member that it is a major responsibility and one of the more critical roles for staff members. As a non-voting member and attending the UCSC staff meetings. I learned ways to motivate and inspire others; I was able to explain to my co-workers and peers how the program works and how employees received recognition. This experience has allowed me to share with employees an understanding of how a UCSC member can impact the organizations' goals, mission and success. It is very important to me to continue to served and promote positive behaviors that support individual, groups, divisions and departments in achieving the University's mission, visions and goals.

Thank you for your support.

After reviewing the mission of the UCSC, the vision is aligned with both my professional and personal goals. I love being a mentor, and the concept of accentuating ones strengths. This vision also aligns with my personal life as well, as I love mentoring and leading in my community. It is only natural that I gravitated towards the UCSC to continue and expound on my growth in these areas.
