UCSC September Meeting Guest – SHI Government Solutions presented as a hub vendor

Communications Committee – Published the first “U.C.S.C.@Work” newsletter for FY11.

October

UCSC October Meeting Guest – Dr. Robert Emery “Safety Bob”, Vice President Safety of Health, Environment and Risk Management (SHERM) presented about the policy on sending surveys out to UT employees and Jackie Oesterman, Sales Manager for Hilton Medical Center Hotel presented information about the services offered.

Educational Awards Committee Event – The Boo Bags Fund Raiser. Boo Bags are filled with sweet treats and include a special note to the recipient, and are delivered all over the university. Employees can send a small surprise to a co-worker, boss or employee with the proceeds benefitting education for children of Classified Staff.

Staff Development Committee – Brown bag lunch event at Medical School “Century Health Study for a Lean World” was presented by Dr. Stefano Sdringola, Associate Professor and Weatherhead Distinguished Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine and the principal investigator for the study. A five-year clinical research study on coronary heart disease prevention and treatment. The event received rave reviews.

UCSC November Meeting Guest – UTHRO (UT Health Retirement Organization) president, Henny vanDijk presented on the history of the group and provided members with a copy of their newsletter “The Evergreen”. The newsletter is available online at https://inside.uthouston.edu/finance/benefits/uthro.htm.

December

UCSC December Meeting – The council enjoyed a relaxed meeting while celebrating with treats brought by some members. Those wanting to participate played the Right Left Game; a fun way for a gift exchange.

UCSC February Meeting – Invited speaker Ronald Johnson, D.D.S., Chief Academic Diversity Officer, Professor of Pediatric, Dentistry, Office of Cultural and Institutional Diversity presented on diversity.

Educational Awards Committee – Call for UCSC educational awards applications which must be post-marked with deadline of April 1, 2011.

Staff Recognition Committee – SAVE THE DATE
The annual UCSC Workshop event is titled Leadership Development, “Finding the Leader in You” and it will be held on Thursday, June 17th at the Brown Institute for Molecular Medicine. Featured speaker is Jim MacIngvale “Mattress Mac”. Learn more about him from his bio.

Staff Development Committee – Brown bag lunch event at School of Nursing.
