THE MISSIONThe Mission of the Project Management Office is to plan and execute all facility related projects to include new building construction, capital improvements and renovation work. DEPARTMENT INFORMATIONThe Manager of Project Management is William (Wes) Stewart, MBA, PMP (x3400). The department is comprised of a team of project management professionals with education and experience in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, general construction and other business/project management processes. Project Managers are "fee for service" meaning salaries are paid for from the projects they manage. Fees are collected on all all projects and determined based on the following sliding scale: Besides the fact that HOOP Policy requires all construction to be managed by a project manager, one advantage of using the in-house project management team is that fees are assessed on a "cost only" basis and any excess fees are returned to the University at the end of the year. An outside firm will charge cost + overhead + profit. On average this would mean a 60% increase in project management fees. Project Managers are also normally assigned to specific buildings, so they become familiar with the occupant's needs and specific building systems.
