H-E-L-P Save Energy: Shut Down Before You Leave
- close the Hoods
- close any fume hoods
- shut down any other lab equipment that can be turned off (if in doubt--ask!)
- shut down your Electronics
- your printer (shutting down your computer doesn't turn off your printer)
- your monitor (if you see a green or yellow light, it's still drawing power)
- your speakers, scanner, and other peripherals
- your CPU (log off and shut down if you are allowed to) except on Wednesday nights
- adding machines, radios, televisions...
- turn off the Lights
- your task lights
- overhead lights if not on motion detectors or timers
- lights in copy rooms, conference rooms, labs...
- block out the Photons: close your blinds, shutters, or drapes
- in the summer, it keeps the building cooler
- in the winter, it keeps the building warmer
- either way, it saves a great deal of energy (and money) and
- it will be more comfortable when you return to work after the weekend!
Remember the acronym: H-E-L-P and help save energy this summer!
