H-E-L-P Save Energy: Shut Down Before You Leave

  • close the Hoods
    • close any fume hoods
    • shut down any other lab equipment that can be turned off (if in doubt--ask!)

  • shut down your Electronics
    • your printer (shutting down your computer doesn't turn off your printer)
    • your monitor (if you see a green or yellow light, it's still drawing power)
    • your speakers, scanner, and other peripherals
    • your CPU (log off and shut down if you are allowed to) except on Wednesday nights
    • adding machines, radios, televisions...

  • turn off the Lights
    • your task lights
    • overhead lights if not on motion detectors or timers
    • lights in copy rooms, conference rooms, labs...

  • block out the Photons: close your blinds, shutters, or drapes
    • in the summer, it keeps the building cooler
    • in the winter, it keeps the building warmer
    • either way, it saves a great deal of energy (and money) and
    • it will be more comfortable when you return to work after the weekend!

Remember the acronym: H-E-L-P and help save energy this summer!
