Student Counseling Service, Office of International Affairs, Health Promotion
Services, Institutional Program Evaluation, Texas/Mexico Border Health
Services Delivery Project, the M.D., Ph.D. Program, Office of Scientific
Affairs, Office of Research Services, Office of Technology Management,
Office of Research Support Committees, Clinical and Laboratory Safety,
Radiation Safety, Chemical and Biological Safety, HSC Animal Care Facilities,
Academic Computing and the Cyclotron Facility. |
POSITION SUMMARY:
POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Assists the President and the
Deans in the administrative functions related to research, research development,
faculty and student affairs, student support services, interdisciplinary
programs, and international activities to ensure that academic and research
goals of the University of Texas Health Science to ensure that academic
and research goals of the University of Texas Health Science Center- Houston
are met.

Serves as a member of the Executive
Council, which collectively acts to advise the President in policy development
and administration of the institution.

Develops, coordinates, implements
and evaluates various interdisciplinary programs, projects and services
in order to meet the needs of the faculty and students.

Serves as liaison for faculty,
students and administration by identifying and communicating concerns of
these groups, and oversees various University publications to enhance communication
and facilitate the mission of the institution.

Initiates, develops and evaluates
policies and programs to ensure faculty support for research effort and
academic excellence.

Monitors application of all
policies and procedures to assure operations within the Regents Rules and
Regulations and continue accreditation of the University by the Southern
Association of Colleges and Universities.

Serves as the administrative
representative of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston
to the U.T. System Office, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the
Southern Association of Colleges and Universities, the Southern Regional
Academic Common Market and other entities to represent the various interests
of the institution and to ensure institutional compliance with the mandate
of these agencies.

Monitors ongoing international
programs and fosters the development of new international relationships
to increase the institutional visibility to increase institutional visibility
and encourage the exchange of scientific knowledge and an appreciation
of cultural difference.

Manages Human Resources activities
for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and
termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling,
performance evaluations, and salary planning.

Responsible for the design,
execution and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides
reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets
are safeguarded, financial information is reliable and compliant with applicable
laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
Terminal degree (M.D. or
Ph.D.) in a health-related discipline and a record of academic achievements
at a senior level.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
Proven experience in the
administration of faculty, a school, or an academic health center. A national
reputation as a scientist.
