POSITION SUMMARY:

Plans, develops, implements, manages and reports the financial activity of UT-Houston in accordance with federal, state, university, local laws, policies and objectives.

POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Organizes and structures functions and develops key management personnel to ensure a high level of productivity and to efficiently utilize individual capabilities.
  2. Develops, recommends and implements financial policies and procedures, which ensure financial transactions are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, comply with the applicable laws and regulations of the state, and federal government and are consistent with the appropriate policies and procedures of UT-System and local components.
  3. Provides the appropriate and necessary mechanisms to ensure financial control of Health Science Center operations.
  4. Provides management with financial information to be used in developing and implementing the goals and objectives of UT-Houston.
  5. Functions as the liaison to the Information Services division to be able to obtain and disseminate accurate and timely financial data.
  6. Ensures that grant function is managed effectively through the Office of Sponsored Projects.
  7. Manages Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
  8. Responsible for the design, execution and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, financial information is reliable, and applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures are complied with.
CERTIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

Previous fund accounting experience, preferably in a higher education or health-related institution.

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

10 years of directly related experience
