POSITION SUMMARY:
Formulates plans and programs
for and directs the administration of the Health Science Center including
academic and business affairs of the University consistent with the Rules
and Regulations of the Board of Regents of The University of Texas
System for the government of The University of Texas System.
POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Develops and implements programs
for efficient organization, management, and long range planning to assure
high quality academic programs, physical facilities and sound financial
planning.

Direct the management of the
Health Science Center administration and all primary operating units of
the institution to ensure the Health Science Center reaches goals and objectives
in keeping with making the Health Science Center a leading institution
of international stature in research in biomedical sciences.

Develops, prepares and recommends
long range and immediate plans to formulate improvements in the field of
multi-professional health science education, research and public service
of the Health Science Center.

Initiates dialogue with and
interprets the Health Science Center's objectives and programs to health
professional groups at local, state, national and international levels,
and coordinates efforts with such groups to ensure that the Health Science
Center is successful in the achievement of its mission of teaching, research,
patient care, and administrative services of the highest order.

Establishes and fosters relationships
with the major health related service organizations both within and outside
of Houston for the purpose of developing inter-institutional cooperative
efforts and improved health education, research, and improved health education,
research, and patient care activities.

Manages Human Resources activities
for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and
termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling,
performance evaluations, and salary planning.

Responsible for the design,
execution and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides
reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets
are safeguarded, financial information is reliable and compliant with applicable
laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
Strong record of achievement
in clinical or basic biomedical sciences, or both, in addition to previous
executive positions in an academic environment.
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in a related
field.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
10 years directly related
experience. Previous related experience in a higher education or a health
related institution preferred.
