POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the provision of counseling services to students, for developing outreach programs, and conducting research into student mental health.

POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Provides short-term therapy and referral services to students. Sessions consist of approximately 50 minute one-on-one interviews where standard psychotherapeutic techniques are applied in an effort to resolve the problem. Refers students with severe emotional problems to long-term therapy or hospitalization. 
  2. Develops outreach and prevention programs including workshops, presentations, student orientation lectures, etc. Presents these programs or delegates that function to a subordinate.
  3. Develops and implements research programs with projects that generally focus on the mental health of Health Science Center students.
  4. Develops budget, provides administrative leadership, and compiles reports reflecting departmental activities.
  5. Manages Human Resources activities of the department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
  6. Responsible for the design, execution and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, financial information is reliable, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

Licensed as a psychologist.

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

Ph.D. in Psychology

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

Five years of related experience following internship.
