SUPERVISES:
Recreational Sports Specialists and support staff.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Manages the recreational facilities owned by UT-Houston, which includes the development and implementation of recreational sports and wellness programs for students and employees.

POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Makes decisions pertaining to the operation of the Recreational Center, including the development and initiation of new programs, program and/or procedure evaluation and revision, scheduling, and cancellation or phase-out of programs. 
  2. Oversees member registration and equipment checkout procedures, which apply to members, guests, and the public.
  3. Maintains weekly reports of facilities usage and membership distribution for Recreation Center operations.
  4. Compiles monthly, and annual reports that contain facility use, memberships, comparison data, and revenue and expense information. 
  5. Develops an annual operating budget and is accountable for the department's performance against the approved budget.
  6. Provides direction and may also be directly involved with staff in the design, implementation or coordination of programs, such as sport tournaments, leagues, clinics, special outdoor events, instructional and wellness program activities. 
  7. Is directly involved in all phases of facility design, construction and renovation for the Recreation Center. 
  8. Purchases and maintains necessary equipment for all operations. 
  9. Arranges for publicity of various Recreation Center programs and facilities. 
  10. Ensures adequate staffing/supervision for all scheduled events. 
  11. Provides program information, answers questions and obtains suggestions or comments from/to university employees.
  12. Manages Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
  13. Responsible for the design, execution and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, financial information is reliable, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATIONS/SKILLS:.

Personal computer skills.

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

  1. Formal education in recreational sports programming or a related field (i.e., physical education).
  2. Willingness to obtain other training through professional organizations.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

Five years of hands-on experience in the operation and management of a recreational facility
