POSITION SUMMARY:
Plans, organizes, and directs
the activities and operations of the Library/ Learning Resource Center
at University of Texas Health Science Center including but not limited
to information resource, collection development, and technology support.
Administers, acquires and organizes the Library/LRC’s specialized resources.
POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Directs the strategic planning,
implementation, and administrative activities of the Library/Learning Resource
Center.

Establish Library/LRC policies
and procedures to ensure the development and maintenance of quality standards
in all phases of the Library/LRC operation.

Represents the interest of the
unit’s respective community to THSLC, UT System, and TexShare bodies. Keeps
students, faculty and staff informed of relevant THSLC, UT System and TexShare
resources and services.

Oversees Library/ LRC daily
operations, ensuring materials are cataloged correctly, and information
is available as needed by Library/LRC users.

Evaluates the use of appropriate
technology to improve staff efficiency and enhance library services.

Prepares the Library/LRC budget
and monitors performance against the budget.

Projects the needs of library/LRC
users and anticipates advances in technology. Updates Library/LRC materials
and accesses databases and full-text resources.

Maintains various statistics
on Library/LRC operations, including reports requested by administration
and governmental agencies, and personnel records.

Makes final decisions regarding
information resource and collection development based upon faculty and
student needs, which includes the nature of the materials ordered and collection
additions.

Assists users with numerous
information resources used for researching, including Medline, Internet
based resources, and print resources.

Provides educational activities
including hand on classes, departmental meeting presentations, demonstration,
and one on one orientation with faculty, student, and staff.

Oversees the design and maintenance
of the Library/LRC website.

May manage student-computing
laboratory.

Manages Human Resources activities
for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and
termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling,
performance evaluations, and salary planning.

Responsible for the design,
execution and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides
reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets
are safeguarded, financial information is reliable and compliant with applicable
laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
Working knowledge of online
searching and current Library/LRC information. Background in science librarianship.
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
Masters degree in Library
or Information Science.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
5 years professional level
experience, with at least 3 years administrative responsibility in a medical
or science based library. Undergraduate degree in scientific/ health science
preferred.
